A mixed-use building that blends historic masonry with modern living

The new 4-story, mixed-use (residential and commercial) building was constructed partially inside the masonry shell of the existing building at 651 Meeting Street in Charleston, South Carolina. The building houses 39 residential units and 6 commercial tenants, including a laboratory space.

Protection and stabilization of the existing masonry structure was paramount in this project. The primary structural system consists of a steel podium level at Floor 2, with conventional wood framing above.
